A new look is coming

Stack Brawl is moving from 16-bit pixel art to a darker, painted, cinematic style. Here is what will change.

Stack Brawl launched with 16-bit pixel art. We have now picked the direction for its next look, and it is quite a change: a dark, painted, cinematic arena.

The plan, in short:

  • Near-black frames with drifting smoke and embers, and a blurred, painted battlefield behind the board.
  • Thin aged-gold frames and small crimson accents instead of chunky bevelled panels.
  • Blocks with real materials: ivory marble, aged bone, black glass and crimson stone. Garbage becomes cracked gray stone.
  • Colour still means something. Crimson and ember are attack, arcane blue is defense, frost is ice. Items keep that split.
  • Spell-like effects for every item: frost shards for Freeze, an ember fireball for Bomb, a blue hex barrier for Shield.
  • New brawler portraits painted as a matching set.

The rules do not change. This is a new coat of paint, and this website is already wearing some of it. The pixel art you see here and in the game today will be replaced piece by piece as the new art is finished.
